In islands and peninsulas, 500mm lanterns with a 360-degree visibility spectrum were utilized to provide a light beam that could be seen from all angles. Inside the lantern, a drum optic of 500mm is used, which is compressed, molded, and polished for clarity. Traditionally, flashing lamps were employed as light sources in drum optics. However, the acetylene gas flashers that were once common have now been replaced by electronic flashers with halogen lamps.
A Pedestal Rotating Beacon (PRB) generates light beams without the use of optics, such as prisms and lenses. The lamps in this system are designed to project light over longer distances. Positioned at different angles, the lamps work together as the panel rotates at a constant speed, producing a distinctive flashing light pattern.
